Houston ISD To Distribute Free School Uniforms Friday, Saturday

HOUSTON, TX — Because of the financial strain put on so many families in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey, the Houston ISD relaxed its uniform policy until January 2018. Now, the district will distribute free school uniforms to those in need, but only for a couple of days.

HISD will have seven distribution points set up from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday only. The student who is to receive the uniform must be present so they can be fitted. Although the uniform policy has been relaxed through the end of 2017, students may still wear uniforms if they already have one or if they're receiving one from this weekend's fitting.

The first day of school was originally scheduled for Monday, Aug. 31, but it was twice delayed by a week while the city recovered from one of the worst storms in American history. School will officially begin on Monday, Sept. 11.
