Houston Officer Faces Misdemeanor For Driving Drunk While On Duty
Ronald Gilbert has been relieved of duty pending investigation.

HOUSTON, TX — An officer with the Houston Police Department has been relieved of duty after he was caught driving under the influence on Sunday morning.
Ronald Gilbert is facing a misdemeanor charge; he was on duty when apprehended, according to Ray Hunt, the Houston police union's president.
Gilbert was stopped in the 15240 block of Galveston Road and transported to jail; he was released on a $500 bond.

As reported by the Houston Chronicle, it was not clear if Officer Gilbert was operating his official police car when he was stopped.
Hunt said that union would not represent Gilbert because driving drunk was considered "outside the scope" of normal HPD operations.
