Houston’s Greenest Occasion - green6.2 10K, 5K, 1K Returns April 19
Earth Week will be highlighted at this Houston Running Company event, where sustainability meets philanthropy.

Join Houston Running Company (HRC) Saturday, April 19 for the 17th annual green6.2 event - which includes a 10K (6.2 miles), and 1K. This is the third HRC Holiday Series event–out of nine throughout the year–and was designed to celebrate Earth Week and encourage eco-friendly, sustainable practices. The walk/run started out with 200 runners in its inaugural year and grew to host more than 2,000 participants in 2024. Event proceeds benefit the HRC Foundation, which promotes health and empowerment through events that encourage fitness, physical activity and building community, all while supporting nonprofits that serve the greater Houston area.
All walk/run events in the green6.2 will start and end at CITYCENTRE, Houston’s premiere shopping, dining and lifestyle destination, located at 800 Town and Country Way. The 10K and 5K both begin at 7:30 a.m., with an awards ceremony at 9:15 a.m. followed by 1K , meant for children and families, which will kick off at 9:30 a.m.
This event has a strong focus on sustainable, eco-friendly initiatives and opportunities. To reduce waste, digital packets will replace plastic bags and paper materials, while reusable water bottles and refill stations will eliminate the need for plastic bottles and cups. Sorting stations will be available to ensure the proper disposal of any refuse or recyclable materials, and green6.2 medals from previous years will be repurposed for this year’s participants, who are also encouraged to recycle old footwear at a shoe drive held during the event.

“HRC has been so delighted with the growth we’ve seen at this Earth-friendly event over the last 15 years – people really do love all the creative ways that we make green6.2 truly sustainable,” said Houston Running Company Co-Founder, Randi Schooley. “We can’t wait to see participants hit the course once again to reduce, reuse and race – or walk!”
Participants are encouraged to carpool, walk or bike to reduce emissions, and a virtual event option is available to further minimize the impact of transportation. HRC also partners with sustainable, local businesses for this event, including Headsweats, and Trees for Houston, to further support environmentally friendly practices.

All participants receive a green6.2 finisher medal and a race-themed t-shirt made from recycled materials. Awards will also be given to the top three overall male/female, and top three Master (over 40 years of age) male/female event winners during the post event awards ceremony. Awards for first place finishers in each age group will be mailed, post-event.
After crossing the finish line, runners and walkers will enjoy the post-event celebration in the plaza at CITYCENTRE with food, drinks, music and entertainment for the whole family. The green6.2 is better with company, so invite friends and family to join the fun!
