MS-13 Gang Member Arrested, Extradited To Texas For Two Houston Murders

Houston Police Chief Acevedo: "Witness shot 27 times"

HOUSTON, TX — MS-13 gang member Douglas Alexander Herrera-Hernandez, a suspect charged and wanted in two Houston murders, was arrested in Virginia and extradition has been ordered back to Texas.

Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo held a press conference with the FBI on Friday afternoon to brief the public about the arrest and the ongoing battle against international gang MS-13 and other violent gangs that commit heinous crimes and murders.

Acevedo said that in November 2015, the El Salvadoran-based MS-13 gang target Houston chicano gang “The Southwest Cholos” in order to take over criminal enterprises and basically the territory in the southwest area of Houston. Over the next several months, MS-13 was responsible for six homicides of Cholo gang members, and the attempted murder and aggravated assault of numerous others, Acevedo said.

Over time in the investigation, HPD developed a witness who provided information to detectives that assisted in the arrest of seven MS-13 gang members believed to be responsible for the six homicides.

Gang members discovered who the witness was, and they were given an order by Omar Torres from inside the Harris County Jail to assassinate the witness. On June 13, 2016, the witness was lured to Buffalo Run Park in Missouri City where he was shot 27 times.

Detectives quickly responded and charged Torres and four other MS-13 gang members with capital murder. A murder warrant issed for Douglas Alexander Herrera-Hernandez, aka Terror. A traffic patrolman developed witnesses and sources that led to the eventual capture of Herrera-Hernandez in Virginia.
