Wax ligustrum (Ligustrum japonicum) is becoming increasingly unpopular as a hedge and garden plant due to its extremely rapid growth that requires continuous pruning and a propensity for dieback of large branch sections during prolonged wet spells. It is also starting to show signs of being invasive in our area, but not nearly so much as its cousin, the glossy privet (Ligustrum lucidum), which is causing a devastating impact on our native woodland ecosystem.
