Ask the Gardener - "What vines, flowers attract hummingbirds?"
"What vines, flowers attract hummingbirds?"

A true joy of our Houston springtime is when hummingbirds visit our gardens. Nectar-producing tubular flowers allow the hummingbird’s long tongue to find food where bees can reach. For early springtime, the yellow-flowered vine, Carolina jessamine (Gelsemium sempervirens), is great for hummers that overwinter here. If you have a lot of space, allow the perennial vines, trumpet creeper (Campsis radicans) and cross vine (Bignonia capreolata), to grow on fences or up sturdy trees and they will flower in the summer or spring and fall respectively.
