Driver Arrested After Fleeing Crash With 2 Deputies

2 off-duty sheriff's deputies were injured when they were hit by a car while riding motorcycles. Police said the driver fled the scene.

HUMBLE, TX — A man accused of hitting two off-duty Harris County Sherrif’s deputies and fleeing the scene of the accident is in the Harris County Jail, police said.

Nathan Macklin Robinson Jr., 21, is accused of running a red light at Old Humble Road and Homestead Road, and hitting Deputy Jeremy Thomas and Sgt. Chris Garza who were working an off-duty job, officials said.

Robinson is charged with two counts of failing to stop and render aid.

The crash happened at about 3:30 p.m. Investigators said both deputies were on motorcycles when they were hit by a car.

The driver and a passenger in the car fled the scene on foot, Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said in a tweet.

One of the deputies was taken to Ben Taub Hospital in critical condition. The second deputy was taken by EMS to Memorial Hermann Northeast, officials said.

Investigators are searching for the passenger of the car.
