9 Voting Locations To Remain Open An Extra Hour After Delays

Problems with voting machines and some locations opening late left people standing in line to vote a lot longer than they hoped.

HOUSTON, TX — Officials with the Texas Civil Rights Project are suing Harris County after reports of irregularities with voting machines, and reports surfaced that some locations were not opening on time in the hopes of forcing polls to stay open an extra hour, officials said.

Several hours before the polls closed a judge issued a restraining order that required nine locations that failed to open on time to stay open until 8 p.m. to allow time for everyone to cast their ballots.

  • Iglesia Trinidad located at 11602 Bobcat Road in Houston
  • Metcalf Elementary at 6100 Queenston in Houston
  • Evelyn Thompson Elementary at 220 Casa Grande Dr. in Houston
  • Hampton lnn Katy Fwy. located at 5820 Katy Freeway in Houston
  • Fiesta Mart located at 1130 Kirby Drive in Houston
  • John Marshall Middle School located at 1115 Noble St. in Houston
  • HOAPV Community Building located at 810 Bluebonnet Place Circle in Houston
  • Lone Star College Cypress Center located at 19710 Clay Road in Katy
  • Houston Community College Alief Center located at 13803 Bissonnet in Houston

Voters waited in long longs Tuesday to cast their ballots, but the wait to vote got a lot longer with some locations reporting problems with voting machines.

The polls opened at 7 a.m.and one voting location at Madding Elementary School had problems with machines not connecting to the internet.

But there were more, with many voters reporting that locations were not open on time, or the machines simply were not working.

Officials reported issues at about a dozen locations in Houston and Harris County that experienced issues or delays. The widespread issues were reported in Alief, Humble, Kirby and Spring.

Officials with the Harris County Clerk’s Office said many of the issues were not abnormal, and many of the issues that caused problems in the morning were corrected within the first couple of hours of voting.
