Humble Schools Plan A Very Special Pep Rally

Alumni, students and anyone in the community is welcome to join the milestone celebration.

HUMBLE, TX – It’s been nearly 100 years since the first campus in the Humble Independent School District opened its doors to students. On Saturday, Aug. 25, the district is inviting the Humble community to come out and celebrate this milestone at the Humble Civic Center.

Starting at 6 p.m., residents can enjoy food trucks, music and, of course, a pep rally featuring representatives from all the high schools. The first schools in Humble were established in the late 1800s with just 13 students in a small schoolhouse. By 1908, there were nearly 300 students in various grade levels in Humble.

The Humble Independent School District was officially created on Feb. 18, 1919. The 36th Texas Legislature passed House Bill No. 332, which converted Harris County Common School District No. 50 into the Humble Independent School District, with 1,435 students enrolled.

The growth in the district stagnated and dropped during the Great Depression, and remained at less than 1,000 students until the 1963-64 school year when the district population topped 1,075 students.

Since then, the district has experienced steady growth, according to state data. It had a total student enrollment of 42,391 in 2017-2018. Students in Humble will start the new school year on Aug. 20.
