It’s a great time to make some additions to the garden. A simple raised bed is a great way to add some colorful flowers as well as herbs and vegetables to enjoy in your kitchen.
Pick a sunny spot and measure a manageable size about 4’ x 10’ as a start. A roughly rectangular bed should be easy to reach from both sides, so that you don’t have to walk on the soil. Mow this area as low as you can, then layer on a few inches of old newspapers or shredded paper as a base to smother all the old grass and weeds underneath. Water well to pack this down.
