National Ice Cream Day 2019: The Favorite Flavors In Texas

What's your favorite kind of ice cream? It seems everyone has different tastes when it comes to this cool creamy concoction.

HOUSTON, TX — It's almost impossible to find anyone in Texas, or anywhere else for that matter, who does not love ice cream in some way shape or form. Whether you're a fan of old school vanilla soft serve cones dipped in hard-shell chocolate, crave a massive waffle cone filled with pistachio and Rocky Road ice cream with cherries on top, or you're bonkers for the delectable fried ice cream served in some restaurants, chances are you love ice cream.

This week, Patch readers responded to the question, "What's your favorite flavor of ice cream?" As a rule, Texans are not too exotic when it comes to their favorite frozen treat, but they surely know what they like, especially if the brand is that Brenham staple of Blue Bell ice cream.

While there are among us who are old school ice cream aficionado, who prefer to make their own, complete with their own hand-cranked ice maker, the majority of us will wander the grocery store aisles to the frozen food section and ponder our selection., but I digress.

Blue Bell Ice Cream was most definitely king with Mike Baxter in Tomball, Lori Selucky McKinney in Leander, Andy Waters in Cypress, and Lisa Wier Earnst in The Woodlands and Ed McKinney in Claremore, Oklahoma, but the preference stopped at the National Ice Cream of Texas.

Most, it seems, enjoyed a few nuts with their ice cream. Danny Morales in Rosenberg loves butter pecan — and who can blame him — while Jennifer Kirk loves her some Rocky Road.

Oh, but there's more. Lora Farmer is a classic Vanilla lover, while her mom Sheri Hawkins enjoys the more exotic black walnut chocolate chip. Deena Mortimer in Devine prefers Oreo Cookies and Cream, while Dawn Kuhn in The Woodlands said it was a toss up between mint chocolate chip and coffee.

Rodney Carson, who lives in North Carolina, also enjoys mint chocolate chip. Jessie Moreno in Cypress seems to enjoy chocolate, strawberry, and vanilla and will grab classic Neopolitan if he's given the choice. Eileen Schmidtke Medler-Chrzanowski in Humble prefers vanilla ice cream, just like Mike Baxter.

Of course, some readers took it to the extreme, with Michael Shackelford saying he enjoys his ice cream cold, while Damion Baker loves any kind of ice cream that has not been compromised by the rash of crazies licking the ice cream straight from the carton — ewww, by the way.

Whatever the preference, whether you prefer to make your very own special creamy concoction, chow down at will from the half-eaten ice cream carton in your freezer, or feel like running to your local ice cream shop on Sunday afternoon, you'll probably be enjoying this sweet treat somewhere
