Kingwood residents help female ex-offenders transition after incarceration
Two local faith-based programs are helping women who, having been incarcerated for various crimes, are working to get their lives back on track. In some cases, these women need help finding a job, emotional assistance and guidance in reconnecting with family members for faith and forgiveness. These two programs are the Freedom Bus Ministry and the Oaks of Righteousness.
Beth Whittier and Robin and Ken Wells, of Kingwood, cofounded the Freedom Bus Ministry. Together, with the help of organizations such as the Humble Rotary Club and area churches, they travel downtown Houston when female inmates are released. Oftentimes, the ladies being released are given little-to-no clothing, supplies, food or monetary resources with which to begin their newfound freedom.
