Lone Star College-Atascocita student Shaelyn “Shay” Castle was initially diagnosed with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder in elementary school, but her mother, Diane Castle, a teacher at Whispering Pines Elementary, knew that there was something more. In middle school, Castle took Shay to a private psychiatrist who diagnosed her with autism. The diagnosis was not only enlightening, but also freeing to a degree.
