Surviving an active shooter: It's all about 'survival mindset'

Over 40 attendees at Kingwood’s Jan. 15 Positive Interaction Program (PIP) meeting learned of the importance of having a “survival mindset” in the event of a mass shooting. Stephen Daniel, Houston Police Department’s community liaison representative specializing in active shooter defense, presented a riveting presentation on what to do when the unthinkable happens.
Daniel opened his presentation with stories – which he has studied in detail – of three different shooting situations where lives were saved. He began with a quote from the 18th-century Irish philosopher, Sir Edmond Burke:
“The only thing required for the triumph of evil is that good men (and women) do nothing.”
