West Nile Virus Confirmed In 3 Houston Communities
Mosquitoes caught in 3 Houston area traps tested positive for West Nile Virus days after other carrier mosquitoes found in Montgomery County

HOUSTON, TX β Mosquitoes found in traps at three Houston area zip codes have tested positive for the West Nile virus, according to Harris County public health officials.
The mosquitoes were found in the northeast Houston communities of Kashmere Gardens (77026), Humble (77338) and in southeast Houston zip code of 77087.
Night time spray has already begun in those areas, officials said.

The mosquitoes were discovered late last month, and roughly a week later, mosquitoes carrying the West Nile virus were discovered in traps in south Montgomery County in The Woodlands.

There were more than 15 cases of West Nile virus reported last year in the Houston area.
Officials advise residents to try to stay indoors in the evening when the mosquitoes are most active, otherwise officials advise wearing long sleeves, using mosquito repellent with DEET and eliminating standing water in your area.
