Astros Championship Parade Friday, City Asks Fans To Wear Orange
Here's the parade route, parking details and pertinent closures

HOUSTON, TX — Happy Hour starts early Friday. Well, at least it does for those Astros fans who haven't already taken a long weekend to celebrate their team wining the World Series late Wednesday night. The City of Houston announced a celebration parade for the world champion Houston Astros to be held Friday afternoon downtown. They asked fans to turn the town orange, but also dress comfortably and bring water.
The parade will begin at 2 p.m. at Smith and Lamar streets. It will move north on Smith Street, east on Walker Street, south on Milam Street, west on Pease Street, north on Smith Street again and end at Lamar Street. The final celebration will take place at City Hall.
The parade staging area between Smith and I-45 underpass on outbound Allen Parkway will close to traffic at noon. Allen Parkway inbound at Taft will be closed at 1 p.m. The McKinney exit off 1-45 South will be closed at 1 p.m., and the Allen Parkway exit off I-45 South will remain open.

"It's a true privilege to proudly host this magnificent salute to our hometown team that has earned history," said Houston Mayor Turner. "As we bounce back from Hurricane Harvey, we are more than ready to welcome our heroes home in proper form."

Houston won its first world championship in its 56-year existence. The Astros took a 3-2 lead over the Los Angeles Dodgers on a thrilling game for the ages Sunday night in Houston. The Astros fell to the Dodger, 3-1, in game 6 to set up the clincher on Wednesday night. The Astros posted two runs in the top of the first and took a 5-0 lead on a home run by George Springer, who was named the World Series MVP.

Since Hurricane harvey damaged most of the downtown parking garages, drivers are urged to check downtownhoustonparking.org for more information about availability and locations. Drivers also need to check for no parking signs before they park. Officials also urged people to use METRORail or METRO’s Park and Ride service to get downtown. No bleachers will be available to the general public.
