Astros Going To World Series! Beat Yankees In Game 7 Of ALCS

Verlander named ALCS MVP; Houston will play the LA Dodgers in the World Series

HOUSTON, TX — The Houston Astros won two crucial home games against the New York Yankees to win the American League Championship Series (ALCS), and the boys from the Bayou City advance to the 2017 World Series. Houston downed the Yankees, 4-0, Saturday night and will face the Los Angeles Dodgers in the World Series beginning Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Los Angeles on the FOX Network.

Game 2 will be Wednesday in Los Angeles at 7 p.m., and the next three games will be in in Houston beginning on Friday, Oct. 28.

Houston starting pitcher Charlie Morton pitched five shutout innings on Saturday while the Astros' bats got hot against C.C. Sabathia. The Astros got solo home runs from Evan Gattis and Jose Altuve to take a 2-0 lead, and then a two-run double by Brian McCann in the fifth inning scored Carlos Correa and Yuli Gurriel.

Houston's Lance McCullers Jr. pitched four innings of relief to pick up the save. It was his first career save.

The Astros pounded out 10 hits while Morton and McCullers held the improved Yankees to just three hits. Houston, which won 101 games in the regular season, won the first two games of the ALCS at home before dropping three straight games at Yankee Stadium. Newly-Squired pitcher Justin Verlander got Houston through Game 6 on Friday before the Astros magical Saturday night. Verlander was named the MVP of the championship series.

Houston last made the World Series as a National League team in 2005, but fell to the Chicago White Sox. This is the first time the Dodgers have made the World Series since 1988, when Kirk Gibson hit a series-ending home run to beat the Oakland Athletics.
