Astros' Jose Altuve Wins AL MVP Award

Astros second baseman edges out Aaron Judge of the Yankees for the award

HOUSTON, TX — Houston Astros second baseman Jose Altuve was named the American League MVP by the Baseball Writers Association of America Thursday evening. Altuve won the award over New York Yankees right fielder Aaron Judge and Jose Ramirez of the Cleveland Indians.

Altuve was listed first on 27 of the 30 ballots. Judge received two first-place votes and Ramirez garnered one first-place vote. Altus had 405 total points, way ahead of Judge (279) and Ramirez (237).

Giancarlo Stanton of the Florida Marlins beat Joey Votto of the Cincinnati Reds by two points for the National league MVP award.
