Famed Texas Chef Sets His Western Cuisine Sights on Houston

Tim Cook, of Lonesome Dove fame, plans to open Woodshed in Upper Kirby's renovated Levy Park.

Houston's restaurant scene has gotten off to a busy 2017, as new eateries launched downtown in time for the Super Bowl and Chris Shepherd opened the doors to his new establishment, One Fifth. In addition, New Orleans-based star chef John Besh will set up shop on Buffalo Speedway later this year.

But wait, there's more. Tim Love is also in the house, and has announced he will open Woodshed in 2018, bringing his popular brand to Upper Kirby's Levy Park.

“Tim’s restaurant will be a huge draw for Houstonians as well as our out-of-town visitors,” Doug Overman, Levy Park director, said in a statement. “We envision Levy Park as a great neighborhood park, but also a destination for the people of Greater Houston and beyond. The Woodshed and Tim’s team will bring something very special to the park and to our vision of a relaxed, social and inspirational environment for all people.”

Love will also oversee the food for a kiosk and double-decker bus that will be stationed in the park and complement a beer garden, dog park, flower beds, theater pavilion, and play area, among other amenities.

Levy Park will officially reopen on Feb. 25.
