Houston Compassion Fest Set For April 22

Event at Levy Park coincides with Earth Day and features live performances, food and film screenings.

Houstonians have a reputation for being giving people, and Compassionate Houston plans to highlight that characteristic in all its glory on Saturday, April 22 — Earth Day — for the kickoff of Houston Compassion Week. The group is promising that Houston Compassion Fest will be a day of family fun, food, and live performances in Levy Park.

In addition to films and games, there will be a food drive and programs put on by the more than 50 organizations signed up to attend the event, which begins at 10 a.m.

Houston Compassion Week is designed to "connect and nurture Houston compassionate culture" and includes the participation of community leaders, teachers, faith communities, and non-profit organizations.

The subjects of the workshops and sessions planned for the week run the gamut and include human trafficking, meditation, dance, college tuition and assistance, vegan cooking, and health. In addition, service opportunities will be highlighted, and individuals will have the opportunity to prepare lunches for the poor and elderly, repair bicycles for disadvantaged children, and clean up neighborhoods.
