Houston Police Seek Help Locating Suspect Wanted In Couple's Shooting

Javan Williams allegedly shot two people, killing one, at a north Houston apartment complex in January.

HOUSTON, TX — The Houston Police Department is asking for the public's help in locating a suspect in a shooting that left one person dead and another injured at an apartment complex in north Houston.

Javan Williams is accused of shooting Aukeyanna Simmons and her boyfriend, Charlie Bennett, Jr., on January 3. The incident began when the couple gave Williams a ride to the apartment complex, located on Greens Parkway. When they arrived at the apartment complex's parking lot, Simmons told police officials that Williams apologized for an altercation he had had with Bennett the previous evening, then produced a handgun and shot Bennett in the neck.

According to court documents, Williams then shot Simmons in the arm and face and fled on foot.

Simmons drove to a nearby hospital, where Bennett was pronounced dead. Simmons was treated for her injuries.

Williams, 26, is identified as a black male with black hair and brown eyes. He has several tattoos on his neck, stands 5 feet 11 inches tall, and weighs about 185 pounds.
