Houston Teen Golfer Qualifies For U.S. Open

Walker Lee, who has signed to play for Texas A&M, holds several course records.

HOUSTON, TX — He's only 19, but this high school senior is headed to Wisconsin next week to compete in the U.S. Open Championship. Walker Lee, who has committed to Texas A&M University and will play golf for the school in the fall, ranks 18th nationally and second in Texas in the Junior Golf Scoreboard Rankings.

The U.S. Open will take place June 12-18 at Erin Hills, the first time the course has hosted the tournament, and if Lee's recent form holds, expect some great play from the youth.

As reported by KTRK, Lee medaled at the 2016 PGA Junior Series Champion, held at the Air Force Academy, was an individual champion at the 2013 AJGA Harvey Pence Invitational, was runner-up at the 2013 AJGA David Toms Invitational and the 2015 AJGA Patrick Reed Invitational. He has also booked eight wins on the Texas Junior Golf Tour and two on the Texas Legends Golf Tour.

Lee also holds three course records, including a score of 62 at Champions Golf Club, located in Cypress Creek.

"I am coming to A&M because I like the school, coaches and practice facilities," Lee told 12thMan.com. "With the courses we get to play and the practice facility, there is no excuse to not be as good as you want to be. Combine that with a great team and I have a lot to look forward to. "
