Man Arrested For Unknowingly Buying Tacos With Fake $10 Bill

Man said the fake bill was change from another business, and he could face up to 10 years in jail if convicted

HOUSTON, TX — A man who paid $3.44 for a purchase in the drive-thru line at a local Taco Bell was arrested for handing over a counterfeit $10 bill. Syed Ali said he received the fake bill as part of his change after a purchase at a Home Depot, and that he didn't know the bill wasn't real.

According to a report by KHOU, the cashier at Taco Bell informed Ali that it was a counterfeit bill, and then Ali made the purchase with another form of payment. Ali said that when he asked the cashier if he could see it, the cashier refused, and that the business called the police.

"If the cashier had showed me beforehand, I would've just left," Ali told KHOU. "Since he was giving me unanswered questions, I decided to stay."

Harris County Sheriff's deputies arrested Ali and booked him into the county jail for forgery.

"Pretty worried that I won't be able to get a job or anything like that, I hope it doesn't happen," Ali said about the possibility of facing jail time.
