Houston Police Camera Captures Man Severely Beating Child With Belt: Video

Harris County officers arrested Kordarell Williams; Child Protective Services is handling child's case.

You never know what you'll shoot when you set up a surveillance camera.

That's something Harris County Constable's Office officials must be thinking today after a video camera they had installed at an illegal dumping site in northwest Houston captured footage on Thursday of a man beating a 7-year-old child with a belt at least 62 times. The child was struck on his buttocks, head, shoulders, and legs, police officials said.

Police officers arrested a suspect, whom they have identified as Kordarell Williams, about three hours after they began investigating the beating.

"I'm proud and relieved that quick action by our deputies led to the arrest and to medical care for the child, and that justice will be done," Precinct 1 Constable Alan Rosen said in a statement. "As a law enforcement leader, a parent and a lifelong member of this community, I'm deeply concerned and upset by such an incident."

Police officials said the youth was not Williams's son, and that Child Protective Services personnel are handling the boy's case and attempting to locate his parents or guardians. Williams was denied bail on Friday.
