Triniti, a Stylish, Constantly Evolving Restaurant, Has Served Its Final Meal

Chef Ryan Hildebrand, who created 20 menus in five years at spot on Shepherd, will open FM Kitchen and Bar in the spring.

Beauty is fleeting, they say, and it was certainly a lovely restaurant.

Striking architectural elements inside and out, a gorgeous kitchen and prep area, a well-appointed and luxurious bar, and seating worthy of a museum in Milan: Triniti had it all, plus inventive and honest food created by a talented chef and partner, Ryan Hildebrand. (And, Michelle Obama even dined at the place.)

All of that is now a thing of the past. Hildebrand accounced on Tuesday that the restaurant had served its final customer on February 5, Super Bowl Sunday.

“It is with a heavy heart that we announce Triniti's closure," Hildebrand said in a statement. "I have had the opportunity to work with amazing, amazingly talented people that have become more than friends. They have become family, and I will miss them dearly."

Triniti was a James Beard Award finalist in 2013 in the Outstanding Restaurant Design category, and opened Sanctuari Bar as a standalone space in the restaurant in 2014.

While many critics lauded the food at the restaurant, some observers commented on the high prices and what could at times be less than stellar service.

My first experience of the restaurant, almost four years ago, left me thinking that the place had a lot of potential, and while it was abundantly clear that Hildebrand was a talented chef, my "pork three-ways" course was a $40 disappointment. A more recent brunch, however, demonstrated that Hildebrand's constant development of the cuisine on offer had paid off.

Hildebrand is not done with food, and plans to open FM Kitchen and Bar this spring.
