2020 Texas Voting Summit Teaches Students About Civic Engagement
The nonpartisan virtual conference helps Texas college students and administrators learn about civic participation amid COVID-19.
NORTH AUSTIN, TX— Texas college students and administrators are invited to a virtual nonpartisan conference on best practices in civic engagement spaces ahead of the 2020 elections. The 2020 Texas Voting Summit is hosted by TX Votes in partnership with the Annette Strauss Institute, Campus Vote Project, and Campus Compact and is open to students, faculty, and administrators from Texas colleges and universities to learn about civic participation amid COVID-19.
The virtual summit will be held from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. on Friday, August 14 (Texas Voting Summit); Saturday, August 15 (Texas Voting Summit); and Saturday, August 22 (Bonus Advocacy Day) and is free to attend. There will be valuable insight offered on:
- Voter Registration and Election Process Panels
- Instruction on best practices for voter education
- Connections to the voter registration tools and networks, such as the National Study of Learning, Voting, and Engagement (NSLVE), the Strengthening American Democracy action plan template, the Voter Friendly Campus Designation, and the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge
- Unlocking future funding for nonpartisan civic engagement activities for Fall 2020 on your campus
Participants will learn how to digitally organize and transition action plans to a virtual space, including conducting meeting with elected officials, and ways to come together for a strategy session to plan for future advocacy efforts.
