Alamo Drafthouse Emerges As Favored Bidder For AISD North Austin Property
Hyde Park property school district is selling has generated much interest, but the theater chain's proposed use has gained favor.

NORTH AUSTIN, TX — Alamo Drafthouse Cinema has emerged as the favored bidder for a prized piece of property being sold by the Austin ISD, according to reports.
If successful in its bid, the theater chain would move its headquarters to the Baker Center at 3908 Avenue B, according to the Austin American-Statesman. The building is a former school built in 1911 that had a minimum bid of $10.6 million, according to the report.
Alamo Drafthouse was one of six bidders for the property, and one of three making separate proposals for the property along with the city, the Statesman reported. Theater chain officials would transform the property into a community cultural center, art gallery space, commissary kitchen area and affordable housing for school district employees and families — a mixed use that has gained favor among Hyde Park residents in the vicinity, according to the report.
