Austin Water Lantern Festival Celebrates Centuries-Old Tradition

Mueller Lake Park will host the family-friendly event where participants will have the chance to release their water lanterns into the lake.

NORTH AUSTIN, TX—Mueller Lake Park, a 6.5 acre lake situated on 30 acres of beautifully developed greenspace, will host a unique and memorable event for the entire family. The Austin Water Lantern Festival, an evening of fun, happiness, hope and memory-making comes to Mueller on Saturday, March 7 beginning at 4 p.m.

Families, friends and neighbors will have an opportunity will gather to watch the mesmerizing glow of thousands of lit lanterns as they float on the calming waters of Mueller Lake. Participants will have the chance to set an intention or honor loved ones as they release their lanterns into the water. Floating water lantern festivals are a centuries old tradition that has endured across cultures.

  • Wristband for entry into the festival area with food trucks
  • Floating lantern kit
  • LED candle
  • Commemorative drawstring bag
  • Marker
  • Lantern retrieval and water clean up

The Austin Water Lantern Festival is an eco-friendly event. The price of admission covers the cost of collection and removal of lanterns from the water after the event, as well as clean up of trash that may have been previously been in or around the water.
