City Plans To Repair the Northwest Pool

The popular North Austin pool is nearly 60 years old.

The Northwest Pool will be getting some much-needed repairs.

The city’s new budget includes funding to fix the cracked deck and other infrastructure issues.

Council Member Leslie Pool, who sponsored the initiative and chairs the Open Space, Environment, and Sustainability Council Committee, said she is “dedicated to continuing to push for further investments to fully repair Northwest in the future.”

Northwest Pool is one of Austin’s most-used pools. More than 15,000 Austin residents live within a mile of the pool.

The Austin Parks and Recreation Department identified Northwest Pool as a “critical pool” that needs “major renovation” and is unlikely to survive five years without major repairs or replacement.

“For years, the city has underinvested in our pools, parks, and libraries,” Pool said in a statement. “This budget takes a strong first step towards fixing that and making Austin a city that works for all of our neighborhoods.”

“These are the types of community assets we all grew up with,” Pool said. “I want to make sure we take good care of them so the next generation can grow up with them too.”
