🌱 Easter Egg Hunt Bike Ride + RIP Gladys Pfluger + Adopt A Pet

Here are the top stories in North Austin-Pflugerville today:

  1. On Sunday, April 17, "Project Transitions is hosting its second annual Easter Egg Hunt Bike Ride" to raise funds for the Hill Country Ride for AIDS in North Austin. "The bike route will start at Project Transitions, located at 7101 Woodrow Ave., and will end at Black Star Co-op at 7020 Easy Wind Drive." The event will take place from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., during which "riders will be able to pick up their rider ribbon and Easter Egg 'Bag-sket' to carry prizes found along the way. Easter eggs will be hidden at each ‘Egg Spot’ along the route, containing a variety of candy and other prizes from Egg Hunt sponsors." Then at 3 p.m., a big Easter Raffle will be held, and donations will be required to participate in the raffle. A $15 donation is suggested for adult riders, and kids will ride for free.   2. Gladys Pfluger, 94,"a descendent of the original settler of Pflugerville," passed away on Friday, April 8. Pfluger lived in Pflugerville all of her life. She was very active in the community and "was instrumental in the first celebration of what would later become known as Deutschen Pfest." She and her husband, Leon John Pfluger, donated land to the city and "owned and operated Hillside Hut, which was a popular venue for hamburgers and frozen custard before expanding the menu to include family meals."   3. This weekend, why not get "a fluffy ball of four-legged love and affection" for Easter? There are lots of pets in the North Austin-Pflugerville area that you can adopt! "According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals," there are "over 6 million pets 'that' are surrendered or taken in each year by rescue organizations nationwide," but "only half of all shelter animals — about 3.2 million — are adopted each year."
