Equity Forum Highlights City's Endeavors To Improve Community

The City of Austin Equity Office hosts Critical Love In Practice, a forum where the community works to improve equity among its residents.

NORTH AUSTIN, TX —The City of Austin's Equity Office, providing leadership, guidance, and insight on equity to improve the quality of life for Austinites, and working to achieve the vision of making Austin the most livable city in the nation for all, will host its City Of Austin Equity Forum: Critical Love in Practice on Saturday, Jan. 18 from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

The FREE event will offer a light breakfast and lunch for attendees, and is designed to have Austin-area organizers, community members, and City employees come together and share information, insight and resources on racial equity. The Equity Office seeks to build and sustain a culture of equity across the city, and requires identifying and tackling tough issues including institutional racism and implicit bias. By creating a culture of equity, the City works to ensure the needs of all residents are met.

The heart of the equity forum will include breakout sessions highlighting how organizations may normalize, organize and operationalize equity, and will feature a lunch keynote by M. Adams, Co-Executive Director of Freedom, Inc. The forum will spotlight how and where equity work is being done in and around Austin, and will create a productive discourse on ways in which working together, the community may better address equity-related issues and initiatives.
