Fatal Shooting In North Austin Leaves 20-Year-Old Dead

A man was killed early Sunday after shots were fired outside the upscale bowling alley PINSTACK that opened in mid-February.

AUSTIN, TX — A man was killed early Sunday after shots were reported being fired outside an upscale bowling alley in North Austin, police confirmed.

The incident occurred just after 1:30 a.m. at 500 W. Canyon Ridge Dr. in the parking lot of the PINSTACK bowling alley. Callers alerted police to a gunshot wound victim, who was in the driver's seat of a Honda. Police later identified the shooting victim as 20-year-old Trevon Jaquis Mize-Ellison, who was pronounced dead just before 5:15 a.m. at Dell Seton Medical Center.

In the course of their investigation, detectives learned members of a car club regularly meet in the parking lot. At that morning's gathering, a disturbance broke out that culminated in an exchange of gunfire, police said in an advisory. The shooting involved people in a silver Corvette, a red Cadillac sedan and a black sedan — all of which fled the scene after the shooting.

PINSTACK officials announced the 50,000-square-foot entertainment venue's opening on Feb. 19. Subsequently, closed due to the coronavirus, the site later reopened at limited occupancy, according to an advisory sent to Patch at the time. Officials called the site the state's "...first upscale, state-of-the-art bowling and active entertainment destination" featuring bowling lanes, bumper cars, a laser tag arena, and a six-lane, LED-lit rock-climbing wall. The massive game room, officials added, features the latest video games, arcade classics and virtual reality technology. Plans called for a giant Foosball table at the site.
