Free Coronavirus Testing Offered In Del Valle, Pflugerville

AUSTIN, TX — Public health officials next week will roll out free walk-up testing sites to detect the coronavirus in an ongoing effort to blunt the spread of respiratory illness, officials announced Friday.

Austin Public Health, in partnership with the Texas Military Department and the Texas Division of Emergency Management will install a free walk-up testing site at Del Valle Middle School operational Aug. 3-16 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. every day. The Del Valle testing site will have the ability to test 800 people a day on a first come, first served basis. Residents in the community do not need an appointment, doctor’s referral or insurance, officials said.

In addition, the Texas Department of Emergency Management is working with Austin Public Health and the City of Pflugerville to manage a walk-up testing site on Monday to be in operation from Aug. 3 to Saturday, Aug. 8. The Pflugerville testing site will have the ability to test 300 people a day, officials added.

The Texas Division of Emergency Management will be handling all the logistics while the Texas Military Department will handle tbe administering of tests, officilas said. Up to 800 people daily can be tested at the planned Del Valle site on a first come, first served basis, according to an advisory. Residents in the community do not need an appointment, doctor’s referral or insurance to avail themselves of the resources, officials emphasized.

This testing sites will be in addition to the existing Austin Public Health locations, and are designed to serve the community where it is located. This sites will only be operational for two weeks before ending operations after Aug. 16, officials said.

People who have been in close contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19, who have symptoms of COVID-19 or are an older adult or a person of any age with certain underlying medical conditions — including chronic diseases, an immunocompromised state or obesity — are advised to get a COVID-19 test.

As with all testing sites, any personal information provided for testing and contact tracing is confidential, officials assured, and immigration status is not asked.
