Holiday Pflugerville Police DWI Crackdown Yields 1 Arrest

Police made 79 traffic stops in the weeks leading up to and including Labor Day weekend in an initiative funded by a state grant.

PFLUGERVILLE, TX — The Pflugerville Police Department on Thursday released results of its Labor Day Impaired Driving Mobilization enforcement initiative which law enforcement officials yielded single DWI arrest.

In the weeks leading up to and including Labor Day weekend, police conducted heightened enforcement for driving under the influence (DUI) and driving while intoxicated (DWI) to discourage impaired driving, which typically increases around holiday weekends.

The upshot: From Aug. 21 to Sept. 7, Pflugerville police made 79 traffic stops and 1 DWI arrest due to additional enforcement funded by Texas Department of Transportation grants, including from Impaired Driving Mobilization coffers. "Each one of these traffic stops represents an opportunity for education and one less potential traffic accident or fatality," police wrote in an advisory.

While the Pflugerville Police Department participates with other local cities to increase enforcement during key holidays like Christmas, New Year’s, Spring Break, Independence Day and Labor Day, Impaired Driving Mobilization grant funds efforts to reduce impaired driving all year-long. The next IDM enforcement initiative will take place in December, according to police.
