Initiative Offers Mental Health Services To Communities Of Color
The Connect to Care Initiative is a program offering mental health services to communities of color impacted by COVID-19.
NORTH AUSTIN, TX — As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to impact communities, and the social unrest to end racial injustices for Black people persists as a focal point of the national conversation, St. David Foundation and its Connect to Care Initiative launched the What's in the Mirror? in July to honor of Minority Mental Health Month.
The Connect to Care Initiative is a program connecting communities of color, including LGBTQIA+ communities and persons living with HIV, to mental health services. The funding covers a consultation and up to two clinical sessions for individuals impacted by COVID-19. As the organization noted in a statement, “we strive to bridge the gaps in the access to mental health services amongst black persons, LGBTQIA communities of color, and persons living with HIV/AIDS by offering culturally affirming care to underserved communities”.
As part of the Art Heals Project, six therapists have come on the project through a declaration of their commitment to the project's mission and values and their dedication to serving the community. What's in the Mirror? looks to help sustain the initiative through monetary donations, volunteers, and community partnerships.
