North Austin Residents Invited To Enjoy Virtual St. Paddy's Day
The City of Austin hosts its St. Patrick's Day celebration online with an evening of performances celebrating Irish culture and tradition.
NORTH AUSTIN, TX— The City of Austin along with the Austin Celtic Association and the Celtic Cultural Center of Texas invite the community to the St. Patrick's Day Austin celebration as it goes virtual in 2021! Enjoy a family-friendly evening showcasing Irish tradition and culture with entertainment featuring international and local stars of Celtic music performing online.
The virtual event kicks off Wednesday, March 14 from 4 p.m. - 8 p.m. and can be live-streamed on Facebook Live on the event's page. Audiences will enjoy a range of performances from artists including:
- Stars of Irish Trad Music: Whether playing with massively successful bands like Lunasa, Slide, or solo performances, these men are powerhouses of Irish traditional music! Colin Farrell, Kevin Crawford, Cillian Vallely, and David Curley are renowned musicians in the world of Irish music and are celebrated as the best instrumentalists on the world stage today. Together they are not to be missed!
- Sean Keane: Sean Keane is a singer and multi-instrumentalist of skill, acclaim, and flair. He is rooted firmly in old Ireland with the Keane family tradition of sean-nós singing, but his music branches out gloriously from those roots pulling sustenance from many genres. Sean's voice has untold depth, range, and maturity; his skill on the flute, whistles and pipes with which he punctuates songs, make his work unforgettable.
- Mairtin de Cógáin: MáirtÃn de Cógáin is a singing, dancing, story-telling bodhrán player who also is a noted playwright and actor. He performs in his native Ireland and all over the U.S…. and between and beyond, too! An infectious personality, MáirtÃn pleasantly commands the attention of any collection of people, from a concert hall to an intimate porch. Descended from a long line of storytellers and with two CCÉ All-Ireland’s for Storytelling under his belt, MáirtÃn gets no more joy out of life than the telling of stories.
- Jeff Moore: Playing guitar for the past 40 years, Jeff is one of the Southwest’s most notable Irish musicians, having performed with many local Celtic music ensembles, as well as international touring musicians such as James Keane, John Williams, Liz Carroll, Johnny B. Connolly, James Kelly, Joe Burke and OisÃn Mac Diarmada. In addition to performances, is an active teacher of accompaniment technique within Irish traditional music.
- The Here and Now: The four accomplished musicians that form this spritely Irish musical group from Austin, Texas together create a rich and captivating sound full of energy. The Here & Now keep tradition at the heart of their music with their albums being met with high regard in traditional music.
- Inishfree Austin Dancers: Austin's top Irish dance school will be at the Fest and it is a great opportunity to find out how you or your child can get involved in learning Irish dance! Always a festival favorite, do not miss their energy filled performance!
- The Clickety Cloggers: A dance club composed of Central Texans who perform a uniquely American dance form that is rooted in traditional Appalachian-style clogging - but with a decidedly modern flair.
- Kieron Elliott - MC: The event welcomes back Kieron as the Master of Ceremonies off the back of his third appearance as Voice actor for "Hoark the Haggard" in the "How to Train a Dragon" franchise. Kieron is certain to liven up a crowd with his wit and charm.
- From the Archive!:St. Paddy's Day Festival delves into its 20 years of archival footage to bring you some of our favorite moments from St. Patrick's Day Austin. You never know whom you might see or what band might make an appearance. Check out some of the amazing talent that has graced the event!
