Pedestrian Dies 3 Days After Being Hit By Car In North Austin

AUSTIN, TX — A pedestrian was struck and killed by a car last week in northeast Austin, police revealed on Monday.
The incident dates to Aug. 22 just before 9 p.m. along the 1000 block of East Rundberg Lane, police wrote in an advisory. An investigation showed a pedestrian was crossing the street mid-block traveling northbound while a black, 2020 Toyota Corolla was traveling westbound in the outside lane of traffic, police wrote.
The driver did not see the pedestrian, according to police, but stopped after realizing she had struck something. In investigating further, police added, the driver realized she had struck a person. She called 9-1-1 and waited for police to arrive, police noted.

The mortally wounded pedestrian was transported to Dell Seton Medical Center for treatment, police said, but succumbed to his injuries three days later at 11:45 a.m. The pedestrian was not identified by name, described only as a 55-year-old Hispanic man.

The incident marked Austin’s 58th fatal traffic crash of 2020, police said, resulting in 63 fatalities this year. At this time in 2019, police added, there were 53 traffic fatalities.
