Pedestrian Hurt After Being Struck By Car In North Austin

AUSTIN, TX — A pedestrian was injured after being struck by a car in North Austin Monday afternoon, medics said.
The incident occurred at 1044 Norwood Park Boulevard, according to a tweet issued by Austin-Travis County EMS just before 4:55 p.m. The injured person may have been riding a bicycle before being struck, medics added.
Officials did not disclose the age or gender of the crash victim as is their custom, and did not detail the extent of injuries. Patch will update when more details are known.

The incident marks the second time in four days — and at least the sixth time in just over two months that a pedestrian has been injured or killed after being struck by vehicles on local roadways:
- On Friday, a pedestrian sustained critical, life-threatening injuries after being struck by a car along the 9000 block of Northgate Boulevard around 7 p.m., Austin-Travis County EMS medics wrote on Twitter. The patient was transported to Dell Seton Medical Center for treatment.
- On Dec. 4, Steven Lamont Hill, 43, was killed on impact after being hit by a car while riding a scooter along the 11500 block of a North Interstate 35 service road just before 11 p.m., according to a police account. Gerardo Rene Barlow, 32, subsequently was arrested for DWI.
- On Nov. 13, just past 10 p.m. along the 1100 block of Airport Boulevard a woman was killed in a section of the roadway not designated for pedestrians as detailed in a police account. Police said the woman was transported to Dell Seton Medical Center, where she succumbed to her injuries six days later.
- On Oct. 18, Raymond Cipple, 54, was fatally struck by a vehicle while trying to cross an East Austin street. The incident occurred along the 1100 block of Airport Boulevard at 8 p.m., according to a police advisory. A police investigation showed that a white, 2015 Dodge 350 was traveling southbound when Cipple tried to cross the street mid block, police said. The man was struck while walking toward the west curb line, police said, before being pronounced dead at the scene.
- On Oct. 10, a pedestrian was fatally struck by a vehicle in North Austin along the 9200 block of Burnet Road north of U.S. 183 just before 2 a.m., Austin-Travis County EMS medics reported via Twitter at the time. Despite life-saving measures, the person was pronounced dead at the scene.
