Pedestrian Killed After Being Hit By Car In North Austin IDed
A car avoided hitting Narciso Mejia Gutierrez, 65, before he was fatally struck by another vehicle on along Northgate Bouevard on Dec. 18.
NORTH AUSTIN, TX — Police on Thursday identified the pedestrian who was fatally struck by a vehicle on the city's north side earlier this month.
The incident occurred Dec. 18 around 7 p.m. at 9027 Northgate Blvd., according to a police advisory. An investigation showed the pedestrian was walking along the street when he proceeded into the roadway when a southbound vehicle was able to stop just in time before striking the man. Police said the pedestrian continued crossing eastbound when he was struck by a northbound black, 2017 Honda Civic.
The pedestrian was transported to Dell Seton Medical Center with life-threatening injuries before succumbing to his wounds three days later, police said. Law enforcement officials identified the pedestrian as Narciso Mejia Gutierrez, 65.

The incident marked Austin’s 84th fatal traffic crash of 2020, police said, resulting in 90 fatalities this year. At this time in 2019, police added, there were 87 traffic fatalities.
