Here are the top stories today in North Austin-Pflugerville:
- Jesse Stripling, 63, "has been missing for over a week," and The Austin Police Department (APD) is asking the community to please help find him, as they are concerned for his well-being since he suffers from medical conditions. "Stripling was last seen on March 30 in the 7800 block of N. Lamar Boulevard off US 183 in North Austin" and may have been driving "a 2011 Red Nissan Sedan." He "is described as a Black male, 6'2", 230 lbs. with brown eyes, long gray hair and a gray goatee." If you have any information, please call 3-1-1 or 9-1-1 immediately. (FOX 7 Austin)
- During their recent Pflugerville ISD board meeting, city officials approved a 3% pay raise for district staff, but "prior to the board's vote; officials expressed concerns that 3% is not enough to cover cost-of-living expenses for district staff." During the meeting, Superintendent Doug Killian "warned that the pay raise will not allow for a balanced budget in 2022-23, but he said a 3% increase that also guarantees all staff will make at least $15 per hour is the right thing to do." He added, "We're stretching the budget no matter what we do...The last thing I want to do is not pass a high enough percentage pay increase and then come to you the following school year with more money in fund balance." For more details on the meeting and topics of discussion, please visit: (Community Impact Newspaper)
- On Sunday, April 3, "a fire erupted at a North Austin storage facility earlier this week and caused $600,000 in damages," but arson investigators "determined the fire was not accidental." This week, "David Jeffrey Nutt was arrested for 'intentionally' setting fire to a storage unit from the Silver Hill Storage facility at 617 West Powell Lane," but fortunately no injuries occurred. Nutt was identified through surveillance video by the management at the storage unit. For more details on the case visit: (KEYE TV CBS Austin)
- The Pflugerville Public Library was recently "named a finalist for the 2022 Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) national medal for museum and library service." The city library was "among 30 finalists for the award" and "is one of two institutions in Texas to be selected as a finalist for this award." The medal award "has honored institutions that demonstrate excellence in service to their communities" for more than 25 years, and "it is the nation’s highest honor given to museums and libraries that demonstrate significant impact in their communities."
