Here are the top stories today in North Austin-Pflugerville:
- On Tuesday, April 12, Pflugerville City Council "gave initial approval for their new "Pflugerville 2040" comprehensive plan and on Tuesday, April 26, they will give final approval during their regular council meeting. "The plan sets policies and directions for the use, development and protection of land and sets goals for the social, economic and natural environment of the city." The plan's vision states "Pflugerville thrives as a modern and charming community. Its diverse culture and heritage, atmosphere of inclusion, first-rate parks, vital infrastructure, employment opportunities, and entertainment options make Pflugerville a desirable place." - Elon Musk's "Boring Company headquartered in Pflugerville" recently "announced it had raised $675 million in Series C funding" and "is now worth $5.675 billion." In the press release where the announcement was made, "Musk refers to traffic as 'the ultimate boss battle' which is his very own way of being 'epic.'" For more on this story visit: (mySA)
- On Friday, April 22, Pflugerville ISD (PfISD) district officials announced that due to budget constraints, "Hidden Lake Elementary School in eastern Pflugerville" which "is nearly halfway complete" is not going to open in the 2022-23 school year as originally planned. In the announcement, they said, "the cost of opening a new elementary campus is an estimated $3 million on the operations side of the district. Although we recognize the need for an elementary on the east side of the district due to increasing enrollment, PfISD is also facing budget difficulties." The difficulties are dueto low attendance rates in 2021-22, "which caused a decrease in state funding," and to "failure of the voter approved tax ratification election, or VATRE, in November." As a result, "students previously zoned to attend Hidden Lake Elementary will remain at their currently zoned campus, and portables will be available to meet the growing needs at Murchison, Rowe Lane, Riojas and Mott elementary schools."
