Pflugerville Set Record Straight On City Budget Misconceptions
The municipal budget calls for a tax decrease rather than a decrease even while representing an 8 percent operating revenue increase.
PFLUGERVILLE, TX — Pflugerville city officials sought to correct a misconception about the municipal budget on Monday, clarifying it calls for a tax rate decrease, not an increase.
The city’s proposed budget is posted online along with additional definitions and details about the proposed rate at https://www.pflugervilletx.gov/city-government/finance/fy-21-budget. A recent misconception, city officials noted, is that the proposed budget — while representing an 8 percent operating revenue increase — means a tax rate increase which is false. The proposed budget reflects a tax rate decrease, city officials said.
The proposed budget is actually based on a tax rate decrease which, due to growth, still results in an 8 percent revenue increase, city officials explained. The fiscal year 2020 current tax rate is 0.4976 and the city’s proposed budget includes a reduced tax rate of 0.4970 while representing an 8 percent increase in operating revenues, officials added.

Officials added the city council has not set a tax rate. The proposed budget is based on a 0.4970 rate to provide city council a view of a budget based on the 8 percent voter approval rate. The council will discuss the budget at the July 14 council meeting which begins at 7 p.m. Watch online at www.pflugervilletx.gov/pftv.
