REI Announces Stores Close Amid Coronavirus Through March 27

The REI Downtown and Gateway stores will temporarily close along with 160 nationwide stores but will offer free shipping to customers.

NORTH AUSTIN, TX — Retail and outdoor recreation services store REI announced the temporary closure of all 162 stores across the nation, including Austin's Downtown and Gateway stores. As the coronavirus, or COVID-19 continues to spread across communities, REI announced it will close stores beginning March 16 through March 27, as a way to protect the health and well-being of its employees and the communities it serves.

All REI employees will continue to be paid during the temporary closure, and customers will be offered free shipping on all orders through REI.com. All workshops and classes have been cancelled and customers can expect to receive a refund or opt to register for future dates. Customers with questions about gear and local outdoor activities may receive answers via the REI digital community, REI Conversations and Co-op Journal. The site will continue to be updated and customers may visit the REI website HERE.
