Storytelling Open Mic Celebrates Juneteenth
The virtual open mic event invites storytellers to share their works with themes of hope, community, family, freedom and more.

PFLUGERVILLE, TX — Juneteenth, the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States dating back to 1865, is an opportunity to honor the struggles and triumphs of African American communities across the country. Juneteenth Storytelling Open Mic, scheduled on June 19 from 1 p.m. - 2 p.m. CDT, is a virtual event celebrating stories of storytellers as they share fiction and non fiction writing to explore themes of hope, freedom, family, community, and home.
Participants are invited to share a 3-5 minute short story, flash fiction, novel extract, personal essay, memoir, or other form of creative non fiction by emailing Dr. Yvonne Battle-Felton Lecturer Creative Writing and Creative Industries at y.battle-felton@shu.ac.uk. Once registered, participants will receive an email link to Zoom and instructions for watching including information on the Facebook livestream event prior to the virtual event.
