Travis County Girl Squad Hosts Virtual Q&A
The virtual information session will discuss the mentorship program designed to support black girls ages 13-17.
NORTH AUSTIN, TX — MEASURE Austin, an organization using data and education to empower communities to eliminate social disparities, invite the community to a Q&A virtual session to learn about becoming a mentor for the Travis County Girl Squad. The mentoring program is designed to support black girls between the ages of 13-17 years of age and looks to pair youth with a supportive adult to serve as a positive role model on the girls path to higher self-esteem, avoidance of risky behaviors and greater scholastic achievement .
The community-based program's upcoming information session is open to those who have considered mentoring but haven't been sure if they'd be a right fit for the role. Girls Squad Program Manager, Maria Brown-Spence, and MEASURE President, Meme Styles, will answer questions about what it means to be a Travis County Girl Squad Mentor. As a mentor you will be matched with a mentee and have at least 1 weekly scheduled check in. This check-in can take place virtually or in-person.
