Travis County HHS Hosts Community Conversation On COVID-19
The virtual discussion will offer insight on how to improve health outcomes and how COVID-19 is affecting communities of color.
NORTH AUSTIN, TX —As COVID-19 continues impacting communities, the City of Austin and Travis County public health officials will host a virtual event to discuss ways to ways to improve outcomes, and how the pandemic has disproportionately affected communities of color. Preliminary data from Austin/Travis County reflect the challenges communities of color have faced amid COVID-19:
COVID-19 hospitalization rate for March-April 2020:
- 12% for White Non-Hispanic individuals,
- 17% for Latinx individuals, and
- 18% for African American individuals.
COVID-19 fatality rate:

- 1.9% for White Non-Hispanic individuals,
- 1.6% for Latinx individuals, and
- 5.4% for African-American individuals
