Body Found Inside Burned Out Baytown Home: Police

A missing 87-year-old man is believed to have died in a fire at his Baytown home early Friday morning.

BAYTOWN, TX -- An 87-year-old man who was reported missing after his house burned early Friday is believed to have died in the fire, officials said. The fire started at the wood framed home in the 1700 block of of Missouri Street about 3 a.m.

Firefighters said the flames were so intense they weren’t able to get inside the home. The roof and the right side of the home collapsed as firefighters battled the blaze, officials said.

The son of the missing man said he’d last seen his father the night before about 9:15 p.m. after dropping him off from the hospital.

Firefighters were able to get inside the home where they found a body near the front door. The Harris County Medical Examiner’s Office is expected to make a positive identification later today.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
