LyondellBasell Hosts San Jacinto College’s EnergyVenture Campers

LA PORTE, TX -- Twenty Houston area middle and high school students recently toured of one of the largest plastics and chemical refining plants in the world.
Officials from the La Porte Complex of LyondellBasell welcomed students taking part in San Jacinto College’s EnergyVenture Camp.
"These students are at a point of either thinking about or actually planning their collegiate path," said Chris Cain, site manager of LyondellBasell’s La Porte Complex. "Understanding the educational requirements, day-to-day responsibilities and work environment associated with any career are valuable to the decision-making process."

EnergyVenture Camp allows students to experience fun while learning about STEM-related careers.
The camp includes opportunities for lab experiments, tours of energy-related production facilities and learning from speakers who work in STEM fields.

During the tour, operators, engineers, and electricians from the complex shared details about their line of work and experience, providing students meaningful insight into various job options.
"Our program enables students to directly interact with a variety of industry professionals," said Linda Drobnich, senior business development manager at San Jacinto College.
The La Porte Complex has partnered with San Jacinto College for eight years to host the institution’s EnergyVenture Camp, a summer camp for youth focused on the energy industry and its career opportunities.
"Essentially, we are helping fill the pipeline of future workers," Drobnich said. "The likelihood of these students staying in the Gulf Coast region to meet the future employment demands is greater if they know they have good employment choices here."
