Pasadena Man Reported Missing After Texas State Apartment Fire

SAN MARCOS, TX -- A 21-year old Pasadena man is among five people authorities said are still missing after a fire at a San Marcos apartment complex on Friday.
David Ortiz, an engineering student at Texas State University, was one of hundreds of students who lived at the Iconic Village Apartments.
At about 4:30 a.m., flames whipped through the complex, displacing 200 residents.

When the fire was finally extinguished, seven people had been injured and five, including Ortiz, were missing.
Five bodies were recovered from the charred rubble, which matches the number of those reported missing, officials said.

All of the bodies are awaiting positive identification from the Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office.
To help those displaced by the fire, Texas State University sent a plea for help to alumni. University officials said students who lost everything are receiving emergency grants to replace clothing, textbooks and materials.
Meanwhile, arson investigators are still trying to determine the cause of the blaze.
