Pilot Escapes Injury As Small Plane Crashes In La Porte

A pilot crashed shortly after takeoff when he developed engine trouble and tried to make an emergency landing, police said.

LA PORTE, TX -- The pilot of a small plane clipped the roof of a building and crash-landed in a nearby field after developing engine trouble, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety. The pilot, who was the only one on board the aircraft, was not hurt in the crash.

Officials said the pilot had just taken off from the La Porte Municipal Airport and noticed a strange noise from the engine.

State police officials said the pilot tried to land the small plane along a stretch of the 11200 block of Spencer Highway, clipped the roof of a metal building and crashed in a grove of trees.
